• 15% — service was adequate but nothing more.
• 18–20% — the standard range for full-service dining in the US.
• 25% — exceptional service, or a large group that took real effort to seat and serve.
• Delivery orders — tip on top of any delivery fee, not instead of it; 15–20% of the food total is typical.
